Senior Observability Engineer

Overview

Senior Observability Engineer building and operating an observability control plane and partnering with engineering teams to improve monitoring coverage and incident detection.

What you'll do

• Build and operate an observability control plane using Datadog and Terraform automation.
• Automate baseline monitors, dashboards, and tagging standards.
• After significant incidents, create detection and dashboard gap packs with ready-to-apply queries.
• Define and audit “good” monitoring standards for service signals and alert quality.
• Validate service observability readiness while service owners keep their alerts and dashboards.
• Share the pager and rotate on shared IR & Observability on-call, acting as Incident Commander when needed.
• Produce monthly observability and service-catalog health reports and run maturity assessments.

What you'll need

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years running production observability, SRE, or DevOps.
• Automation-first engineering in Python, Bash, Go, and/or Terraform; encode monitoring standards as code.
• Kubernetes proficiency and distributed-systems debugging experience across microservices.
• Experience with alerting and SLO strategy (burn-rate and error-budget thinking) and reducing alert fatigue.
• Shared on-call and Incident Commander-capable experience.
• Datadog preferred; knowledge of Grafana/Prometheus, Splunk, or New Relic is acceptable if you can ramp on Datadog fast.

• Hybrid infrastructure environment (AWS and bare metal) is referenced.
