Overview
The Senior Principal Enterprise Software Engineer provides architectural and technical leadership for complex medical device software products and platforms. The role combines hands-on engineering with system-level design leadership across embedded, mobile, enterprise, and connected software in a regulated medical device environment.
What you'll do
- Provide architectural and technical leadership across software products and platforms, aligning product designs with system and enterprise architecture.
- Define system-level software requirements and architectures, review design artifacts, and ensure requirements traceability, technical quality, scalability, security, and maintainability.
- Lead the design, development, and verification of high-integrity software for Class II and Class III medical device systems.
- Architect software for real-time data acquisition, processing, synchronization, and presentation across implantable devices and connected systems.
- Design and guide development of embedded, mobile, client/server, web, and cloud interfaces, including Bluetooth, Transmission Control Protocol/User Datagram Protocol (TCP/UDP), socket communication, and REST and SOAP services.
- Develop and promote reusable software frameworks, object-oriented design patterns, automation approaches, and test-first engineering practices.
- Evaluate technologies, frameworks, engineering tools, and development practices while leading technical and process improvements across teams.
- Influence technical strategy and product roadmaps.
- Mentor engineers and collaborate with product owners, architects, technical leads, verification and validation engineers, and global research and development partners.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering and 20+ years of software engineering experience, or Master's degree in Computer Science Engineering and 17+ years of software engineering experience.
- Experience in software architecture, design, development, debugging, and testing using C# and .NET.
- Experience architecting and building AI assisted and AI native tools and solutions with demonstrable efficiency and productivity impact.
- Experience developing medical device software, including real-time data acquisition, processing, synchronization, or presentation.
- Experience designing embedded and connected software, including firmware or device drivers, Bluetooth communication, networking services, socket communication, and TCP/UDP communication.
- Experience translating system requirements into subsystem requirements and software designs using Unified Modeling Language (UML), requirements traceability, and object-oriented design principles.
Nice to have
- Experience developing Class III medical device systems, implantable device software, device simulators, or mobile operating system applications for regulated medical systems.
- Knowledge of IEC 62304, ISO 13485, medical device cybersecurity, patient privacy, and secure software development practices.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated software testing, and configuration management tools.
- Experience with operating system threading and scheduling, distributed computing, relational database design, web-based applications, and build systems.
- Experience working with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams, including software development, verification and validation, systems engineering, human factors, and quality engineering.
