Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Overview

Support the reliable, secure delivery of Ethoca’s services as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, focusing on scalability, security, availability and performance. Work closely with architectural, development and operational teams while operating SaaS platforms in production environments.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with customers, project management, software engineering and network operations to gather database requirements, improve existing systems and develop new systems.
• Install and upgrade database systems.
• Implement and maintain database security measures in accordance with industry standards and guidelines.
• Design and support 24x7 high-availability solutions.
• Optimize database and server performance by analyzing and configuring physical server hardware, operating systems and database software settings.
• Provide recommendations for upgrades and new systems.
• Develop and optimize queries, stored procedures and ETL processes.
• Conduct code reviews and optimizations to enhance performance.
• Execute database schema and code changes.
• Perform bottleneck analysis and ensure efficient server and database performance, including recovery and restores when needed.
• Plan for system growth and scalability.
• Ensure compliance with vendor license agreements.
• Handle reporting and data export/import tasks using CSV, XML and unstructured data.
• Document the database environment, processes and best practices.
• Provide technical support and prompt problem resolution for database-related issues.
• Participate in production and on-call support to maintain continuous system availability and address emergencies.
• Learn new technologies and assist with architecture and design.
• Work efficiently within a high-security environment.
• Communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices.
• Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of accessed information.
• Report suspected information security violations or breaches.
• Complete periodic mandatory security training in accordance with Mastercard’s guidelines.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of DB2 or PostgreSQL database administration experience.
• 2+ years of Snowflake data warehouse administration and development experience.
• Experience working with cloud PaaS database services.
• Experience with Jenkins and gitlab/git-bucket.
• Linux/Unix experience.
• Experience supporting highly available and fault-tolerant systems.
• Participation in on-call shifts for infrastructure that runs 24/7.
• Security knowledge and experience, including database encryption, masking, certificates, PKI, SSH or VPN.
• Expert problem-solving skills using problem analysis methodologies.
• Computer Science or Engineering degree or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Azure and AWS cloud technologies experience.
• Experience with cloud database deployment using Terraform.
• Azure Cosmos or similar database technology experience.
• Desire to automate everything and automate anything.
• Database development experience.
• Networking experience, including TCP/IP, UDP, routing, firewalls or load-balancers.
• Desire to document everything.
• PCI-DSS or similar experience, including financial, government or healthcare experience.
• Understanding of the ITIL framework.
• Familiarity with Java application support.
