Senior Software Apps Engineer - Yahoo Mail

Overview

Build and evolve Yahoo Mail’s next-generation mobile experience as a Senior Software Apps Engineer focused on Android and React Native. You will work on consumer-facing applications used by millions of users worldwide across the full product lifecycle.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, test, and ship features for Yahoo Mail’s mobile experience.
• Own projects end-to-end, from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvements.
• Perform code reviews while contributing to and learning from a highly collaborative engineering culture.
• Drive technical decisions and recommend scalable, maintainable solutions to complex engineering and user experience challenges.
• Tackle performance, reliability, and usability problems with elegant and efficient solutions.
• Take ownership of key features and technical areas that directly impact millions of users.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and Engineering teams to deliver exceptional user experiences.
• Mentor teammates and help raise the engineering bar across the team.
• Leverage AI coding assistants and software engineering agents while maintaining high standards for code quality, security, and performance.

What you'll need

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 6+ years of experience building consumer-facing Android, mobile, or web applications.
• Deep technical knowledge of Android application development using Kotlin and Java.
• A solid understanding of Android framework components, application lifecycles, and Jetpack Compose.
• A strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and software engineering principles.
• Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and third-party services.
• Hands-on experience using AI-powered development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code/Desktop, Gemini, or similar, including CLI and cloud agent workflows as part of daily software development.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Experience shipping Android applications to the Google Play Store.
• Experience building email, messaging, or communication applications.
• Experience with React Native or modern web technologies including React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Experience working with AI, Machine Learning, or Generative AI technologies.
• Experience working in Unix/Linux development environments.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum software development methodologies.
• Experience leading large feature initiatives or driving mobile application growth and adoption.

• Location: India.
• Yahoo has a high degree of flexibility around employee location and hybrid working; most roles do not require specific regular patterns of in-person office attendance.
