Senior Software Engineer

Overview

Senior Software Engineer for GitLab Security, working on the data layer behind vulnerability/dependency management and building services beyond the GitLab monolith.

What you'll do

• Own significant backend components from technical design through delivery within GitLab's release cycle.
• Design and develop systems to ingest, store, index, and query security report data and integrations.
• Build and improve services using Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL; contribute to newer services using Go or Rust where appropriate.
• Improve PostgreSQL queries and schemas to support growing vulnerability management data.
• Collaborate with product, design, frontend, and engineering partners and participate in reviews and design discussions.
• Apply a security mindset, including how GitLab handles malicious or vulnerable software packages.
• Contribute to GitLab’s move toward modular services for GitLab Security.

What you'll need

• Professional backend engineering experience delivering production features at scale with ownership of outcomes.
• Hands-on PostgreSQL experience including query profiling/optimization, indexing, and schema design.
• Professional experience with Ruby on Rails, Go, or Python and comfort working in Ruby on Rails day to day.
• Evidence of guiding peers or independently delivering according to a delivery plan.
• Experience using security tooling for vulnerability triage/remediation or building vulnerability/dependency management products.
• Fluency using artificial intelligence tools to improve delivery with sound engineering judgment.
