Senior Software Engineer

Overview

Senior Software Engineer on Chainguard’s Package and Image Automation team focused on building and maintaining systems for image and package automation. The role involves hands-on engineering, including AI-powered tooling for automation reliability and speed.

What you'll do

• Design systems that orchestrate package creation, test generation, and image building.
• Develop LLM-integrated agentic pipelines for manifest generation, test scaffolding, and validation.
• Write production Go components such as CLI tools, services, and integrations.
• Build quality tooling including test generators, validation frameworks, and quality gates.
• Contribute technical input to planning and roadmap direction for the squad.
• Collaborate with a distributed team across time zones (US/Canada, and EU/India-based colleagues).

What you'll need

• 5-7 years of software engineering experience designing and building complex systems.
• Strong Go expertise.
• Experience integrating AI/LLMs, including systems that use language models for code generation or developer tooling.
• Systems architecture skills for loosely-coupled, scalable systems and trade-offs.
• Experience building developer tools, CLIs, or automation platforms.
• Deep Linux and build systems knowledge, including package managers, build tools, and containerization.
• Strong communication skills for technical writing and cross-team collaboration.
