Senior Software Engineer / Data

Overview

Senior Software Engineer role in a data and software team, building data assets, BI and reporting solutions, and cloud-based prototypes that address business-critical needs in an agile environment.

What you'll do

• Design and develop high quality, scalable data assets that support contemporary BI tools and advanced analytics.
• Help design and implement best in class data-visualization and reporting solutions leveraging modern BI solutions.
• Prototype high impact innovations, catering to changing business needs, by leveraging modern technologies (AWS – Cloud).
• Possess functional knowledge and skills reflective of a competent practitioner with the ability to deliver on work of highest technical complexity.
• Consult with functional management in the analysis of short and long-range business requirements and recommend innovations which anticipate the future impact of changing business needs.
• Provide highly technical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of information technologies that assist the functional business units in meeting their strategic objectives.
• Review and implement the disaster recovery plan to ensure that new systems promote uninterrupted systems operation.
• Coordinate activities with cross-functional IT unit stakeholders (e.g., database, operations, telecommunications, technical support, etc.).
• Work closely with product owners to evaluate stakeholder requested features and provide input on estimating effort and feasibility for release level and sprint planning.
• Formulate logical statements of business problems, and devise, test and implement efficient, cost-effective application program solutions.

What you'll need

• ETL / Data Integration / Cloud (AWS) technologies experience.
• Expert level experience with Snowflake cloud data platform, including hands-on experience with Snowflake utilities such as SnowSQL and Snowpipe.
• Experience designing and integrating quality data assets for optimal use in BI tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
• Experience developing code in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Python, Scala, Hive, R, Spark etc.).
• Experience in Python programming.
• Expert level knowledge of Snowflake, MS SQL, Oracle, Unix/Linux shell scripting, Autosys scheduling tool, and version control tools.
• Strong data warehouse applications knowledge in financial/insurance domain.
• Experience working with semi-structured data (XML, JSON).
• Experience working on change data capture (CDC) with Streams & Tasks.
• Experienced in Agile Scrum and Kanban methodologies.
• Excellent business communication skills, analytical ability, strong judgment and management skills, and the ability to work effectively with Business and IT management and staff.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working in Agile teams.

Nice to have

• Relevant development experience with .NET, C#, or C++.
• AWS technologies certification.
• Knowledge of any data modeling tool, Data Vault 2.0, and Big Data distributed processing.
