What you'll do
- Review existing buildings from site surveys, as-built information, energy data and research, and quantify key energy performance factors.
- Create detailed thermal models to define a building's engineering and architectural requirements for NZC.
- Where necessary, build more complex models to system component level, such as Apache HVAC in IES.
- Carry out compliance modelling for BREEAM/LEED, Part L and EPCs.
- Analyse a building's engineering and building fabric factors to identify opportunities to improve performance.
- Align building analysis with related European building regulation issues associated with building performance.
- Develop building performance metrics to compensate where limited or no information is available.
- Undertake whole life carbon assessments using OneClickLCA. Training can be provided as required.
- Use strong Excel skills for analysis and present data clearly and effectively.
What you'll need
- A passion for sustainable and NZC buildings.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Some building services engineering and design abilities.
- Competent in IES VE software and CIBSE TM 54 thermal modelling.
- Familiar with Part L/SAP modelling and up to date with proposed changes to these regulations.
- Competent in AutoCAD and able to read and comprehend AutoCAD/Revit drawings to create models.
- An understanding of industry bodies and standards for NZC buildings and sustainability in the built environment.
- An understanding of BREEAM and its energy-related credits, with strong knowledge of BREEAM MAT01 assessments.
- Good understanding of embodied carbon assessment, RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) and embodied carbon standards (ISO 14067, EN 15978, TM65, etc.); knowledge of one or two carbon standards.
- Ability to interrogate a material Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to extract scope emissions, global warming potential (GWP) and non-EPD material disclosure interpretation.
- Ability to undertake embodied carbon modelling using OneClick LCA and other systems.
- Ability to read, interrogate and extract information from a bill of quantities (BoQ) to translate into project functional unit use.
- General understanding of project stages and associated scope emissions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Good Excel skills to manipulate output into the required format.
- Mechanical, Sustainability, Electrical, Mechatronics, Building Services, Architectural Engineering or other related engineering degree (Bachelor's at minimum).
- Junior Sustainability Specialist should have at least 4 to 5 years of experience.
- Proficient in embodied carbon modelling.
- Working knowledge of assessing embodied carbon benchmarks and developing decarbonisation pathways.
Nice to have
- Some experience of building services systems in a design capacity or similar.
- Knowledge of building fabric elements related to energy efficiency.
- Aspiring to attain Chartered status and understanding of the pathway to achieving it.
- Ideally familiar with IES Apache HVAC.
- Ideally competent in Revit.
