Overview

Software Development Engineer for Cisco’s Routing Platform software team, focused on SD-WAN/edge routing forwarding and platform software.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with hardware teams to bring up new platforms and integrate NIMs.
• Develop and maintain ROMMON and bootloader software for secure initialization.
• Implement and tune high-performance forwarding plane software.
• Build and optimize Layer 2 networking protocols and features.
• Debug performance bottlenecks in the kernel and control plane layers.
• Use AI-assisted coding tools and modern IDE workflows to accelerate development.

What you'll need

• 8–12 years of end-to-end networking software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ for systems programming in Linux.
• Experience developing device drivers and working with RTOS/Linux kernels.
• Understanding of routing architectures plus Layer 2/Layer 3 protocols (e.g., Ethernet, VLANs, STP).
• Experience with bootloaders (ROMMON), hardware bring-up, and BSP.
