Overview
Software Development Test Engineer responsible for delivering benchmarked software quality and customer happiness across Cisco optical and routing products. The role focuses on system testing, automation, AI/ML-based testing, network debugging, and customer-focused test strategy.
What you'll do
- Own and execute system test strategy across end-to-end workflows and integrations.
- Apply AI/ML-based testing approaches such as test generation, test optimization, anomaly detection, and failure prediction.
- Leverage Copilot and GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate test development, refactoring, documentation, and root-cause analysis.
- Engage in debugging complex network problems and define solutions.
- Work on network automation, algorithmic thinking, and analytics applications derived from customer use cases.
- Work on continuous improvement and transformation.
- Apply scientific, data-driven testing.
- Collaborate effectively with teams across geographies, including direct customer interfacing and stakeholder management.
- Write Python automation test plans defining the automation strategy and test cases for new features, Solution Test, and System Test.
- Deliver software with benchmarked quality and customer happiness to enable faster customer adoption.
- Use expertise and creativity for innovative product recommendations and solutions.
- Apply knowledge of Cisco's business strategies.
What you'll need
- MS or BS in EE/CS combined with 4-9 years of proven experience.
- Strong software test engineering methodology and process knowledge.
- Excellent knowledge and testing skill in optical technologies.
- Deep understanding of customer deployments and operations, with the ability to translate brown field and green field deployments into test strategy with high efficacy.
- Ability to learn quickly and maintain an open mind to grey box testing, bringing strategic on-the-box and off-the-box views that reflect the state of IOS-XR systems.
- Experience with Optical Line Systems and Subsea Networks.
- Experience in test engineering concepts and methodologies, including test planning, test case design, test execution, and test automation.
- Experience with automation using TCL and Python, automation test tools, and automation methodologies.
- Excellent experience in Layer-0 and Layer-1 traffic generators and analysers, such as Viavi, Agilent, Spirent, and IXIA.
- Hands-on experience with manageability applications OpenConfig, Restconf, Netconf-Yang, and Telemetry.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Results orientation with a high degree of accountability, dedication, and responsibility.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Linux and modern software tools and techniques for development and debugging.
- Solid software design and development skills.
Nice to have
- Industry certification such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, JCNA, or JCIE.
