Overview

Backend Software Engineer on Cisco's engineering team, building scalable, secure cloud infrastructure and applications that connect people, businesses and governments.

What you'll do

• Influence technical decisions and optimize system designs.
• Use AI-assisted workflows to streamline development.
• Take ownership of projects and deliver high-quality, secure, privacy-focused code.
• Lead small-to-medium features from technical design through completion.
• Advocate for new features that address customer needs.
• Track metrics for product adoption and success.
• Perform coding, debugging, testing and troubleshooting under minimal supervision.
• Stay current on industry trends and coach others on the software development lifecycle and agile practices, as needed.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (0 to 4 years of experience), or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field (0 years of experience).
• Strong grasp of Data Structures and Algorithms.
• Proficiency in Java, Python, Golang or C/C++.
• Ability to think critically about application scalability and cloud environments.
• Ability to architect and design distributed systems.
• Ability to use AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development and automate testing.
