Software Engineer - Distributed Systems

Overview

Software Engineer on Figma’s Infrastructure team, helping design, build, and operate distributed systems that power real-time collaborative design tools.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable infrastructure systems.
• Architect and evolve distributed systems including storage platforms, streaming infrastructure, and compute orchestration.
• Improve developer experience via internal platforms, CI/CD systems, build tools, and APIs.
• Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to design secure, maintainable, and performant systems.
• Participate in platform strategy, roadmaps, and engineering best practices.
• Debug and resolve complex production issues across services and layers.
• Mentor engineers and support collaboration, inclusivity, and technical excellence.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in backend or infrastructure engineering.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts (sharding, replication, consistency, eventual convergence).
• Experience with cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and container orchestration.
• Proficiency in Go, TypeScript, Python, Rust, or Ruby.
• Strong system design skills and experience architecting resilient production systems.
• Excellent communication skills, including cross-team collaboration and mentoring.

Details

• Full time role held from a US hub or remotely in the United States.
• Annual base salary range: $153,000–$376,000 USD.
• Required to keep cameras on during video interviews.
• If hired, required to attend in-person onboarding.
