Software Engineer - Developer Experience

Overview

Software Engineer (Developer Experience) leading the Build Systems team’s build and CI infrastructure to help engineers ship changes quickly and reliably.

What you'll do

• Drive technical roadmap and strategy for the Build Systems team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify developer pain points and design scalable solutions.
• Lead complex, multi-quarter initiatives to reduce build/test times and improve CI reliability.
• Design, build, and maintain developer tools such as scalable build systems, distributed CI platforms, and test frameworks.
• Architect and implement large-scale infrastructure on AWS for the build pipeline.
• Mentor the team through technical guidance, code reviews, and architectural leadership.
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to stakeholders ranging from individual contributors to senior leadership.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of engineering experience.
• 4+ years on Infrastructure, Platform, or Developer Experience teams.
• Deep expertise in build systems (e.g., Bazel, Buck, Pants, Gradle).
• Experience optimizing CI/CD and building developer tooling at scale.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, CI platforms (e.g., Buildkite), and Infrastructure as Code.
• Strong coding skills in Go, TypeScript, Python, or Ruby.
• Proven technical leadership with a track record of setting direction and driving cross-team initiatives.

Details

• Full time role.
• Can be held from one of Figma’s US hubs or remotely in the United States.
• Requires in-person onboarding if hired.
