Software Engineer II

Overview

Software Engineer II role on Mastercard's Cross Border services team, which enables banks as Originating Institutions to offer cross-border payments to consumers and corporates. The role focuses on quality engineering and development of multi-tier REST APIs and UIs.

What you'll do

• Participate in sprint planning and contribute to development, test case design and execution.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and implement the changes.
• Contribute to BDD/TDD practices and help maintain quality gates using tools like SonarQube.
• Implement CI/CD build pipelines with tools like Git/BitBucket, Jenkins, Maven, Artifactory and Chef.
• Stay updated with emerging testing tools and practices and apply them as appropriate.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Proficiency in programming languages like Java or Python, especially for tool development.
• Experience with end-to-end development and testing of multi-tier REST APIs and UIs.
• Familiarity with Agile development and microservices architecture.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-native platforms (e.g. Kubernetes, AWS, GCP).
• Experience in Java/J2EE technologies, REST APIs, JSON, NoSQL and relational databases.
• Hands-on experience with one or more automation tools: Selenium, Playwright, Karate, Rest Assured.
• Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Git, and containerization tools like Docker.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written; fluent English is a must.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Solid understanding of software design and development principles, data structures and efficient data handling.
• Solid understanding of testing strategies: unit, functional, and integration testing.
• Solid understanding of performance engineering and optimization techniques.
• Solid understanding of secure coding practices.
• Hands-on experience in code reviews and quality improvement practices.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting distributed systems and applications.
• Hands-on experience building reliable and operable software systems.

Nice to have

• Basic understanding of performance testing tools like JMeter.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Datadog).
• Eagerness to learn, grow, and contribute to quality engineering excellence.
