- Identify performance requirements and risks early in the development lifecycle.
- Execute load and stress tests, interpret results, analyze performance bottlenecks, and improve response times, throughput, and resource utilization.
- Build and use monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting to understand service behavior.
- Define and review service health indicators and use telemetry to detect performance regressions and improve production diagnosis.
- Manage performance execution and delivery of features and projects, negotiating priorities and deadlines and ensuring timely, high-quality completion.
- Analyze application and system behavior to find inefficient code paths or resource usage.
- Recommend and implement optimizations and validate their impact through measurement and testing.
- Investigate complex performance issues using profiling and diagnostic tools, including heap and thread dump analysis.
- Identify root causes and drive fixes and preventive measures.
- Participate in or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders and contribute to the architectural design of new features and systems.
- Consider scalability, reliability, maintainability, observability, and performance throughout the design process.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
- Review code, provide constructive feedback, and maintain a high bar for technical excellence, maintainability, observability, and unit testing.
- Promote coding guidelines and elegant and efficient implementations.
- Develop and maintain performance test scripts and automation using tools such as LoadRunner, NeoLoad, JMeter, and JavaScript-based frameworks.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues to ensure high-quality service operations.
- Maintain service health and quality, proactively identify and resolve issues, and recommend improvements to reliability and performance.
- Lead thorough root cause analyses and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
- Document new features, enhancements, fixes, and relevant performance findings.
