Software Engineer, Platform Engineering (L2)

Overview

Software Engineer in Twilio’s Platform Engineering team (L2), focused on building and operating backend services and automations at scale for Kubernetes and distributed systems.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and operate services and automations that support Kubernetes clusters at scale.
• Turn well-scoped tasks into working code in collaboration with product and technical leadership.
• Participate in code reviews and follow team testing standards (unit and integration testing).
• Support AWS and Azure cloud configurations using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
• Maintain observability coverage including metrics, alerts, and basic distributed tracing.
• Flag technical debt, bugs, and small-scale system issues encountered.

What you'll need

• 1–2+ years of professional software engineering experience, including exposure to backend services with Kubernetes.
• Basic Kubernetes operations knowledge (deployments, pods, services).
• Experience with or desire to learn AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code).
• Some exposure to GitOps workflows (e.g., ArgoCD) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Harness or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of at least one of Shell, Terraform, YAML, or Go, with willingness to build proficiency.
• Some experience with cloud environments; ideally basic exposure to AWS core services (e.g., EC2, S3, EKS) or Azure equivalents.
• Foundational understanding of distributed systems (distributed datastores, caching, or async event streaming such as Kafka).
