Software Engineering Senior Manager - Payments Architecture

Overview

Lead software engineering management for Payments Architecture, guiding experienced engineers and engineering managers in building high-quality payment capabilities with modern technology. Ensure architecture alignment, security, stability, scalability, risk management, and delivery of technology commitments.

What you'll do

• Manage, coach, and develop teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers.
• Ensure adherence to Banking Platform Architecture and non-functional requirements with each release.
• Partner with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate technology strategies and enable application migration paths to target architecture, including cloud readiness, application modernization, and data strategy.
• Represent the product technically during cross-team collaboration and planning.
• Identify and recommend opportunities to resolve technology roadblocks involving code, build, and deployment.
• Manage the overall software development cycle and security standards.
• Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and teams delivering moderate- to high-risk work, removing impediments and obstacles.
• Encourage constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement.
• Build engineering skills in the codebase, conduct peer reviews, and guide design as needed.
• Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability within technology functions.
• Identify, manage, and mitigate technology and enterprise risk.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and roadmap priorities, promote solutions, generate corporate value, and articulate technical strategy.
• Advocate for agile and DevOps practices.
• Interact directly with third-party vendors and technology service providers.
• Manage people and financial resource allocation to meet commitments and strategic technology objectives.
• Hire, build, and guide a culture of talent development, and conduct performance management for engineers and managers.

What you'll need

• 6+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, education, or a combination of these.
• 3+ years of management or leadership experience.
• 5+ years of experience in Stakeholder management.
• Strong hands-on experience in design/architecting fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience in Observability, Grafana, Kafka, and related technologies.

Nice to have

• Experience in Software Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, education, or a combination of these.
• Management or leadership experience.
• Expertise in US domestic payments.
• Expertise in building complex and 24x7 available payment solutions.
• Good hands-on experience with the latest technology stack.
• Exposure to developing scalable solutions on cloud platforms.
• Exposure to handling platforms and L2/L3 support.
• Expertise with best engineering practices.
• A strong technology profile in Java, Kafka, Mongo, and event-driven architecture with a design and solutioning background.
• Experience in the payments domain.
• Good understanding of US domestic and cross-border payments.
• Experience working on one or more payment rails: Wires, ACH, Real Time Payments, Zelle, or Card.
• Fair understanding of ISO 20022 payment message specifications.
• Knowledge of SWIFT cross-border payments.
• Knowledge of payment regulations such as OFAC, Dodd-Frank, SEPA, and others.
• Strong understanding of non-functional requirements for building resilient and scalable payment solutions.
