Sr Engineer Quality

Overview

Drive and implement a comprehensive test strategy using appropriate testing tools and techniques, designing and delivering quality tests and automated data testing scenarios. May require development experience in Python, ETL, SQL and others.

What you'll do

• Work closely with BSAs and developers to understand and define system requirements and acceptance criteria of user stories and upcoming features.
• Understand the impact of software changes on other areas of the system and identify gaps in the requirements.
• Identify the scope of testing, including systems integration and regression testing.
• Apply test techniques to ensure coverage.
• Work with development to ensure a comprehensive and robust suite of automated tests, from unit and integration tests to user journey tests.
• Identify data requirements to satisfy test cases and create and maintain test data.
• Ensure continuous exploratory and manual testing of each functional area and user story against different layers of the system, such as the web service and user interface layers, checking screen, file and database outputs.
• Ensure comprehensive test strategies are in place for non-functional areas such as performance and load.
• Ensure processes used within the team meet quality standards and champion the use of new practices where appropriate.
• Discuss and review outputs produced by team members and maintain standards across the team.
• Demonstrate working functionality and user stories to the product owner and/or during team showcases.
• Provide input into user story points and estimates.
• Facilitate knowledge transfers to other testers within the department.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience.
• Five plus years of experience in a QA/Testing technical role.
• Proven track record of testing software developments in a structured environment.
• Experience of the defect lifecycle and ability to advise on tests to put in place after fixes are made.
• Ability to work in a continually changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and priorities at short notice.
• Excellent understanding of test levels (from unit tests to UAT) and ability to advise the team on what to test (and what not to test) as part of a cohesive testing strategy.
• Ability to propose improvements on project practices and processes to improve team effectiveness and software delivery.
• Sound technical skills, including understanding of high-level system architecture components such as application servers, databases, and web services.
• Understanding of basic programming constructs.
• Experience in one or more test frameworks and scripting automated functional tests.
• Good team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interact and collaborate with people from development, business analysis, project management and SME disciplines.
• Experience working on user stories and defining clear acceptance criteria.
• Good experience in API and Microservices testing.
• Good experience in Functional Testing, End-to-End, Regression, and Smoke Testing tasks.
• Strong sense of self-motivation, organization and attention to detail; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to quickly comprehend project goals and requirements, identify gaps and omissions, and recognize testing challenges and impediments.
• Establish collaborative relationships with other teams to ensure success of project test phases.
• Anticipate problems or issues that may arise, forecast high-risk areas in software and drive resolution.
• Provide timely and meaningful test result updates to management.

Nice to have

• Experience working in an AWS environment.
• Experience creating test cases using GitHub Copilot.
• Good experience in accessibility and security testing.
