Overview
The Senior Manager of IT Infrastructure Services oversees the design, implementation, maintenance and operation of internally managed IT infrastructure and application services. The role leads infrastructure service delivery, systems reliability and scalability, security alignment, project delivery and a team of IT professionals.
What you'll do
- Manage the IT infrastructure services team, setting goals, prioritizing projects, communicating with stakeholders and overseeing budgets.
- Lead, mentor and manage IT professionals, including hiring, training, performance evaluations and professional development.
- Coordinate resources and deliverables for shared goals and projects.
- Liaise between Engineering and IT teams to procure, provision and maintain physical and virtual infrastructure.
- Manage and direct operational support for infrastructure services.
- Define and implement portfolio infrastructure plans and the integration of tools and technologies with decision-makers.
- Establish daily, weekly and monthly operational KPIs to manage and improve IT operational activities.
- Provide overall direction, guidance and definition of infrastructure, enterprise architecture and technology portfolios in partnership with the Sr. Director IT Shared Services.
- Participate in IT budget and strategy deployment processes.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
- Ensure the availability, performance and security of IT infrastructure.
- Implement IT operations policies and procedures, including disaster recovery and data backup plans.
- Align Infrastructure Services with Information Security standards, guidelines and policies.
- Enable a highly scalable, fault-tolerant platform and establish infrastructure operations best practices to achieve customer SLAs.
- Maintain knowledge of industry-wide IT infrastructure and architecture standards and practices.
- Ensure departmental alignment to infrastructure and architectural standards and strategy.
- Bring infrastructure and integration perspectives to IT initiatives and ensure project activities follow IT architectural standards and practices.
- Ensure IT asset management discovery processes are operational, resolve data and discovery errors and maintain accurate asset and configuration information throughout asset lifecycles.
- Lead planning, execution and delivery for IT and cloud infrastructure projects aligned with the annual operating plan and strategic initiatives.
- Communicate project status, activities and achievements with internal and external partners.
- Manage end-to-end infrastructure delivery across distributed teams.
- Coordinate projects with local leadership and translate strategic requirements into project plans with scope, timeline, budget and success criteria.
- Oversee infrastructure project delivery on time, within budget and to quality standards.
- Manage project resources, including internal staff, partners and subcontractors, across infrastructure and ITSM teams.
- Lead the development, publication and communication of infrastructure policies and standards.
- Participate in architecture working groups and support the IT strategic plan.
- Execute patching cycles across servers, endpoints, hypervisors, storage and cloud workloads, documenting risk acceptance and remediation dates for exceptions.
- Maintain configuration and hardening baselines, remediate drift and partner with Information Security on vulnerability remediation, certificate lifecycle and privileged access.
- Manage backup and disaster recovery, including immutable or offsite copies, recovery time and recovery point objectives, restore testing and DR testing.
- Operate change through the approved process with CAB submission, tested rollback and post-implementation review.
- Maintain monitoring coverage, ServiceNow configuration item accuracy and automation of routine work.
- Support internal and external audits with evidence, control walkthroughs and corrective action closure.
- Maintain runbooks, SOPs and the infrastructure risk register.
What you'll need
- Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive IT infrastructure engineering and operations experience across on-premises compute, storage, networking, virtualization and cloud platforms.
- 4+ years in a formal supervisory or senior management role leading infrastructure engineering teams, including global distributed teams across multiple time zones.
- Hands-on operational experience with AWS, including EC2, RDS, VPC, S3, CloudFormation and AWS cost optimization.
- Hands-on operational experience with Microsoft Azure, including VMs, App Services, SQL Database, ExpressRoute and Azure hybrid scenarios.
- Experience administering and designing hybrid identity solutions using Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including federation, SSO and multi-factor authentication.
- Proven experience with hyperconverged infrastructure, including Nutanix or VMware vSphere, and enterprise storage platforms, including SAN/NAS, in production environments at scale.
- Project management experience delivering infrastructure transformation initiatives, cloud migrations or datacenter modernization projects.
- Ability to support multi-year infrastructure strategy; think architecturally about compute, storage, networking and cloud platforms; and translate business requirements into operational roadmaps.
- Experience leading geographically distributed infrastructure teams across multiple time zones and maintaining operational accountability across 24/7 environments without requiring 24/7 shift work from leadership roles.
- Advanced operational knowledge of AWS, including EC2, RDS, S3, VPC and IAM, and Microsoft Azure, including VMs, App Services, SQL Database and ExpressRoute.
- Ability to design hybrid cloud architectures and optimize cloud costs.
- Deep technical command of hyperconverged infrastructure, server virtualization, enterprise storage, network infrastructure and data protection/disaster recovery solutions.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, hybrid identity models, SSO, PAM and identity governance in cloud and hybrid environments.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent infrastructure transformation projects, governing delivery, managing scope, budget and timeline, and communicating status to executive leadership.
- Understanding of multinational infrastructure standards and compliance frameworks, including SOC 2, ISO and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to implement consistent policies across geographically dispersed data centers and cloud regions.
- Ability to develop infrastructure budgets, forecast capital and operational expenses, track spending and make investment decisions balancing performance, security and cost efficiency.
- Excellent communication skills with business leaders and technical teams, including the ability to present infrastructure strategies and complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Thorough understanding and experience with Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, Knowledge Management, Request Management, Service Catalog, Asset Management and CMDB.
Nice to have
- Experience working in a Global Capability Center (GCC) or similar global delivery model supporting multiple time zones and geographies.
- Experience with disaster recovery planning, business continuity and implementing redundancy across geographic regions.
- Infrastructure certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator or CompTIA certifications.
