Sr Manager Software Engineering

Overview

Lead a team of software engineers building and maintaining the GridOS Data Fabric platform and shared services for GE Vernova Electrification Software, which supports next-generation grid orchestration software.

What you'll do

• Build and manage a world-class team to consistently deliver complex Data Mesh features using next-gen technologies and methodologies.
• Hire, onboard, build and engage the Grid Engineering team allocated to you, including the GridOS Platform and Shared Services teams.
• Be responsible for the full software lifecycle, including requirement analysis, documentation/procedures and implementation.
• Provide day-to-day work direction for team members engaged in projects and delivery using agile processes.
• Facilitate and coach software engineering teams on requirements, estimation and work sizing.
• Drive a continuous learning culture and provide leadership on Lean/Agile principles and development practices.
• Contribute to strategy and policy development, including resource development, innovation and execution strategy.
• Present leadership updates to GE executive sponsors and customers.
• Align with stakeholders to ensure data and process changes are implemented in line with project objectives and timelines.
• Utilize project management tools to track progress and identify key risk areas.
• Work with system leaders and functional teams to ensure products and services adhere to compliance and controllership standards.
• Troubleshoot and remedy availability and performance issues.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with a minimum of 12 years of experience.
• 5 years of experience as a people leader.
• Experience driving agile development practices of large teams.
• Strong Data Engineering background.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects.
• Must be willing to travel to key sites.

Nice to have

• Experience building scalable Web applications.
• Experience with container technologies and microservices architecture.
• Good knowledge of Data Mesh.
• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Solid understanding and experience in distributed systems.
• Good experience in software development using Java / .NET.
• Experience in usage of Gen AI for SDLC.
• Experience working in Unix/Linux operating systems and shell scripting.
• Experience in Agile methodologies.
• Experience of working in the Power Systems domain.
• Working on data systems across multiple operating systems/cloud environments.
• Advanced degrees such as an MS, especially in distributed computing or data systems.
