Sr Manager, Software Engineering

Overview

Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering organization spanning platform engineering, product-line delivery teams, and Human-in-the-Loop (HiTL) applications with reporting and analytics. Own people leadership, technical direction, delivery, and customer impact across multiple product lines using document understanding and AI-augmented automation.

What you'll do

• Lead and develop platform engineering, product-line delivery, and HiTL/analytics teams through team leads and senior engineers.
• Set technical direction for shared AI/agents, infrastructure, security, cost optimization, and evaluation-pipeline capabilities.
• Build and grow team leads and senior engineers and develop the next layer of technical leadership.
• Own vendor relationships for external development partners, define interface contracts, hold delivery leads accountable, and resolve cross-team dependencies.
• Establish engineering culture, standards, and practices across all three streams.
• Guide architecture and design decisions across product-line teams for consistency, reuse, and shared-platform alignment.
• Resolve cross-team technical trade-offs between shared-platform constraints and product-line needs.
• Engage hands-on selectively on foundational platform decisions and critical blockers.
• Champion AI-assisted code generation, review, test automation, and responsible AI/LLM tooling adoption with evaluation, monitoring, and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Interface with business, product, operations, and support stakeholders to align priorities, resolve conflicts, and meet functionality, quality, and timeline commitments.
• Balance shared platform priorities against individual product-line delivery commitments.
• Communicate delivery status, risk, and trade-offs from product owners to senior leadership.
• Own the release process across teams and coordinate QA, product, and stakeholders for reliable releases.
• Establish monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability standards.
• Ensure unit, component, and integration testing practices across every team.
• Champion CI/CD adoption and optimization.
• Coordinate incident response and on-call coverage across platform and product-line services.
• Collaborate with Security to resolve findings and complete compliance reviews.

What you'll need

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years managing engineering managers, team leads, or senior tech leads, not only individual contributors.
• Experience running two-three teams with a shared platform layer and independent delivery teams or pods.
• A proven track record of building and scaling engineering leadership by developing leads and senior engineers.
• Experience owning delivery against firm deadlines with external dependencies across multiple concurrent workstreams.
• A strong background in cloud-native, microservices-based architecture on AWS or Azure.
• Experience building document understanding or intelligent document processing systems at production scale, including classification, extraction, OCR/layout analysis, or structured-data-from-unstructured-input pipelines.
• Solid experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production software at a platform level serving multiple consuming teams, including LLM-based pipelines, agentic workflows, or evaluation pipelines.
• Backend development experience with Python/Java and FastAPI.
• Frontend familiarity with Angular/React and JavaScript or TypeScript, enough to review and guide UI engineers.
• Experience with AWS, including Bedrock, Lambda, S3, SQS, ECS/EKS, and API Gateway, or equivalent Azure services.
• Experience with MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, or other relational/NoSQL stores.
• Experience with GitHub Actions, Bamboo, Terraform, Docker, or similar CI/CD and infrastructure tools.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, Pydantic, or equivalent LLM orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with structured logging, distributed tracing, and alerting using Datadog, LangSmith, or equivalent tools.
• Experience with Selenium, Playwright, Postman, or similar automation tools.
• Experience with GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI-powered development tools.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to set technical direction in undefined problem spaces.
• Ability to lead through leads and develop the technical leadership layer beneath you.
• Ability to represent the team to multiple business and product stakeholders with competing priorities.
• Strong communication across technical and senior stakeholder audiences.
• Strategic thinking across multi-quarter, cross-team outcomes and product-line delivery commitments.
• Decisiveness under ambiguity and ownership of outcomes.
• High emotional maturity when handling delivery pressure, stakeholder conflict, and cross-team trade-offs.
