Sr. Staff Technical Risk Architect, Unified Trading

Overview

Architect and own a real-time, cross-asset risk and margin engine for Coinbase’s unified institutional trading platform. The role focuses on scalable risk infrastructure serving retail, prime, and wholesale brokerage customers.

What you'll do

• Own architecture for real-time user, portfolio, multifactor, borrow, and cross-portfolio risk evaluation.
• Design low-latency, high-throughput risk systems.
• Own SLOs, observability, reliability, performance, and incident response.
• Set technical standards through code and design reviews.
• Mentor engineers and reduce single-point-of-failure risk.
• Partner with Product, Trading, Financing/Credit Risk, Security, and Compliance on the roadmap.

What you'll need

• Hands-on architecture experience designing, building, deploying, and supporting 24/7 risk systems.
• Extensive backend engineering experience with production-grade distributed systems.
• Experience architecting cross-asset risk systems with real-time portfolio evaluation.
• Deep proficiency in low-latency Java.
• Experience with Aeron, SBE, or similar high-throughput messaging.
• Experience with multifactor or borrow risk, margin, or clearing in a regulated or financial environment.
• Experience delivering projects from scoping through monitoring and iteration.

• Work mode: Remote in the USA.
• Quarterly in-person working sessions are expected.
• Annual base salary: $253,895–$298,700 USD.
