Staff Engineer

Overview

Staff Engineer for the Distributed Storage & Transactions (DST) team, designing and scaling core distributed storage, replication, and transaction foundations of YugabyteDB.

What you'll do

• Lead design, development, testing, and delivery of core storage and replication features.
• Write high-quality C/C++ code with comprehensive automated tests.
• Troubleshoot correctness, stability, and performance issues in distributed storage and transactional subsystems.
• Improve scalability and throughput as cluster size, data volumes, and transaction rates grow.
• Build and streamline database management operations (scale-out, backups, schema/index ops, rolling upgrades, blue-green deployments).
• Identify and implement performance improvements across storage engine, transaction processing, and replication layers.
• Contribute to the YugabyteDB open-source project and mentor other engineers.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a foundation in systems programming using C/C++.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems fundamentals including replication/consensus, transactions/consistency models, and fault tolerance/recovery.
• Experience working on storage engines, databases, or other infrastructure-level systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative distributed team environment.
• Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD in Computer Science (or related) or equivalent practical experience.
