Staff Engineer, Backend

Overview

Staff Engineer, Backend responsible for driving architectural excellence and technical strategy across multiple product engineering pods.

What you'll do

• Design very low-latency systems for dynamic pricing and other complex business challenges.
• Process large-scale inventory data across tens of thousands of products.
• Coordinate vendor ecosystem efforts spanning almost half a million vendors.
• Lead systematic technical debt reduction across pods to improve deployment stability.
• Own architectural decisions spanning multiple pods and teams.
• Partner with Engineering Managers on architecture trade-offs supporting delivery and scalability.
• Conduct design and code reviews and mentor engineers.

What you'll need

• 7+ years of software development experience.
• At least 5+ years in backend systems and distributed architectures.
• Deep expertise in Spring Boot, Kotlin, and Java.
• Strong distributed systems foundation including scalability, fault tolerance, and high availability.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka (or similar event-driven architectures) and AWS.
• Experience with PostgreSQL/MariaDB, MongoDB, and Redis for caching.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
