Staff Engineer - Telephony

Overview

Own the voice-agent and campaign platform end-to-end as a Staff Engineer, covering data modeling, APIs, orchestration, reliability, performance, and engineering standards. This is an individual contributor role with no people management.

What you'll do

• Own the end-to-end backend for agent, campaign, and user management, from data modeling through API design to deployment, in Python and FastAPI.
• Orchestrate complex, long-running, stateful operations with Temporal.
• Own performance and reliability for a multi-tenant SaaS platform operating at sub-second latency SLOs.
• Build observability through logging, metrics, and tracing so the team can debug production confidently and quickly.
• Build integration-testing infrastructure that supports fast shipping without breaking customer-facing systems.
• Collaborate closely with the frontend team using Next.js to deliver the platform experience.
• Set a design-first and documentation-first engineering culture within the team.
• Establish RFCs before code and ensure decisions are written down without tribal knowledge.

What you'll need

• 8-12 years building production backend systems.
• Deep expertise in Python and FastAPI, or Golang.
• Experience building telephony infrastructure, primarily SIP / VoIP.
• A track record of full-stack ownership, including designing systems end-to-end, making trade-offs, and operating systems in production.
• Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration at scale.
• Experience building and operating high-scale distributed systems that are multi-tenant, low-latency, and resilient under real load.
• Strong PostgreSQL and Redis fundamentals, including schema design, query performance, and caching strategy.
• The judgment to know when to build vs. buy, when to optimize vs. ship, and when to abstract vs. inline.

Nice to have

• Experience building products on top of LLMs or AI/ML systems.
• Time at an early- or growth-stage startup, with comfort with ambiguity, speed, and ownership.
• Ideally, experience with Temporal for workflow orchestration at scale.
