Staff Infrastructure Engineer, Cluster Infrastructure

Overview

Staff Infrastructure Engineer for Anthropic’s Cluster Infrastructure team, owning the full lifecycle strategy for compute clusters and agent-driven automation. You’ll set technical direction for bringing compute online at large and fast-growing scale.

What you'll do

• Own the technical strategy and roadmap for agent-driven cluster lifecycle management.
• Partner with teams to ensure new compute capacity is ingested on time.
• Align with physical build-out partners and leverage cloud solutions for high-bandwidth inter-cluster connectivity.
• Collaborate with security owners to provision clusters secure-by-default.
• Define and drive strategy on cluster scalability, homogeneity, and fault tolerance.
• Establish operational excellence practices including incident response, postmortems, and on-call health.
• Provide technical mentorship and coaching to engineers.

What you'll need

• Deep expertise in distributed systems, reliability, and cloud platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, IaC, AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Strong proficiency in at least one systems language (Rust, Go, or Python).
• IaC proficiency with Terraform.
• Track record leading complex, multi-quarter initiatives across multiple teams or systems.
• Ability to build alignment across senior stakeholders and communicate effectively.

• Hybrid policy: expected to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time.

• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
