Job description

Overview

Staff Platform Engineer on Abbott's Lingo Division team in Hyderabad, India. Builds and operates cloud platform infrastructure on Azure, sets the technical standard for the team, and manages day-to-day work allocation and feedback for two direct reports.

What you'll do

  • Own the day-to-day work allocation for your team, ensuring engineers have well-scoped, meaningful work that matches their skills and develops their capabilities.
  • Support your team through technical challenges, unblocking complex problems and guiding engineers toward solutions rather than solving everything yourself.
  • Build, provision, and maintain Lingo's cloud infrastructure on Azure, taking ownership of technically complex or high-risk platform work alongside your team.
  • Own and evolve key areas of Lingo's infrastructure-as-code foundation using Terraform or Bicep, including module design, standards, and code review for your team's contributions.
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipeline architecture for Lingo's engineering teams, defining deployment patterns, environment promotion gates, and release automation standards that your team implements and operates.
  • Lead from the front on SRE practices, contributing to SLO and SLI definitions, designing alerting and monitoring configurations, and driving post-incident reviews that generate real engineering improvements.
  • Build and maintain observability tooling across Lingo's production environment, covering distributed tracing, log pipelines, and metrics collection, ensuring engineering teams have the visibility they need.
  • Partner with product and feature engineering teams to support their deployment needs, onboard them to platform tooling, and reduce friction in the path from development to production.
  • Contribute to architecture and design discussions with the Platform Engineer Lead and Senior Manager, providing practical input grounded in your day-to-day operational experience.
  • Document infrastructure, runbooks, and operational processes in a way that supports knowledge sharing across Lingo's globally distributed engineering team spanning the US, Spain, and India.
  • Identify process, tooling, and reliability improvements within your team's domain and drive them to completion with appropriate prioritization and stakeholder communication.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering with hands-on work in a production environment.
  • Strong hands-on Azure expertise, with production experience across Azure compute, networking, storage, identity, and security services.
  • Solid infrastructure-as-code skills with Terraform, Bicep, or equivalent, including designing and reviewing reusable modules in a team environment.
  • Proven experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent, including deployment automation and environment promotion.
  • Working understanding of SRE principles including SLOs, SLIs, alerting strategies, on-call practices, and incident response and post-incident review workflows.
  • Experience with observability tooling for monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing in a cloud-native environment.
  • Experience implementing cloud security controls including identity and access management, network security configurations, and secrets management.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across a globally distributed engineering team spanning multiple time zones.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Azure-native services such as Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure DevOps, Azure Monitor, Azure Policy, and Azure Security Center in a production context.
  • Experience supporting IoT, biosensor, or real-time consumer health data platforms where data reliability and low-latency processing are critical.
  • Familiarity with AIOps tooling and AI-driven observability practices, including anomaly detection and automated alerting.
  • Background in MLOps infrastructure, including model serving, feature stores, and pipeline orchestration on cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud security and compliance frameworks including HIPAA, GDPR, or PCI in an engineering context.
  • Prior experience in a consumer technology company or high-growth digital health environment.

Details

  • Location: Hyderabad, India (Abbott Healthcare Pvt Ltd).
  • Division: Lingo; job family: Product Development.
  • Work shift: Standard.
  • Significant work activity: continuous sitting for more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day.
