Staff Production Engineer

Overview

Staff Production Engineer responsible for improving the reliability, scalability, observability, and automation of Zscaler’s globally distributed, multi-cloud infrastructure.

What you'll do

• Implement highly available infrastructure across AWS, GCP, and bare-metal environments.
• Write Python or Go code to eliminate manual work and build self-healing systems.
• Maintain observability using Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
• Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
• Lead incident response, create playbooks, and conduct post-incident analyses.
• Conduct operability reviews with Engineering and partner teams.

What you'll need

• 3–5+ years managing reliability, scalability, and availability for large-scale production services.
• Expertise in Python, Go, or C/C++.
• Strong knowledge of networking protocols, Linux/RHEL, and distributed architecture.
• Experience with high-stakes incident management.
• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Proficiency with ITIL frameworks and incident data for problem management.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools and new technologies to improve workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience with public cloud platforms and Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
• Experience with chaos engineering and large-scale disaster recovery planning.
• Expertise in BGP, GRE, IPSec, HAProxy, DNS at scale, and OS networking internals.

Details

• Full-time position.
• Hybrid work is available three days per week in San Jose, California, or remote within California.
• Base salary: $152,000–$190,000 USD yearly.
