Staff Software Engineer

Overview

Staff-level backend engineer building and operating services for Ping’s core product experiences, with a focus on reliable APIs and event-driven systems.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable backend services and APIs.
• Deliver end-to-end backend projects from technical design to iteration using production feedback.
• Build event-driven and asynchronous workflows using Kafka and queue-based systems.
• Own service reliability including monitoring, logging, alerting, incident response, and post-incident improvements.
• Partner with Infrastructure/SRE to build and operate systems on AWS.
• Improve data access patterns across SQL and NoSQL databases, including migrations and performance tuning.
• Implement caching strategies using Redis or Memcached.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience building and operating production systems (Java & Springboot).
• Strong fundamentals in system design, API design, data modeling, and maintainable, well-tested code.
• Experience working in AWS and understanding common infrastructure components.
• Strong experience with SQL databases, e.g., Postgres or MySQL.
• Strong experience with NoSQL systems, e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka and message/queue systems including delivery semantics and failure handling.
