Staff Software Engineer

Overview

Build and improve backend reliability systems for Wrike’s infrastructure as a Staff Software Engineer on the Backend Reliability team. The role focuses on scalable services, production resilience, incident investigation, and reliability tooling.

What you'll do

• Design and maintain reliability components such as rate limiters, migration tools, circuit breakers, and Redis caching.
• Troubleshoot production issues and optimize PostgreSQL usage under high load.
• Investigate severe incidents, assess impact, and propose mitigation options.
• Create reusable tools and frameworks for resilient services.
• Use AI-powered development tools to accelerate engineering and analysis.
• Share reliability practices, review designs, and set technical standards.

What you'll need

• Strong Java/JVM expertise for scalable backend systems.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, high availability, CAP theorem, and fault tolerance.
• Deep experience with PostgreSQL and Redis.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience with RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Ability to work independently and validate technical decisions.
• Strong written and spoken English.

Nice to have

• Infrastructure engineering or SRE experience, including infrastructure as code.
• Experience leading initiatives, cross-team projects, or mentoring engineers.
• Familiarity with Graylog, Zabbix, Grafana, or BigQuery.
