Staff Software Engineer

Overview

Staff Software Engineer role on Oliv.AI’s core team, focused on high-ownership delivery from ambiguous problems to production systems. Primarily backend, with comfort to work across frontend, infrastructure, data, and AI as needed.

What you'll do

• Own complex engineering problems from first principles through production.
• Design simple, scalable, reliable systems and make strong architectural decisions.
• Build primarily on backend while working across frontend, infrastructure, data, and AI when required.
• Prototype quickly, test multiple approaches, and decide based on evidence.
• Work with AI/LLM tools, agents, APIs, and providers to create engineering leverage.
• Build automation and internal tooling to improve team effectiveness.
• Improve engineering quality, architecture, and development practices.

What you'll need

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building and owning production systems.
• Strong depth in backend engineering with enough breadth to work across the stack.
• Strong system design and architectural judgment.
• Ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments.
• High ownership and strong product judgment.
• Ability to prototype, benchmark, automate, and continuously improve engineering workflows.
• Comfort learning unfamiliar technologies quickly rather than being tied to a specific stack.
