Staff Software Engineer - Android Device Authenticators

Overview

Staff Software Engineer for Okta’s Device Authenticators team, building and scaling Android/Kotlin client-side software and services for device authentication and identity security.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and QA to deliver critical engineering initiatives.
• Lead design and implementation of new features for the core Android/Kotlin platform from conception to deployment.
• Define and champion engineering best practices and contribute to technical designs and long-term architecture decisions.
• Mentor and coach engineers through code reviews and technical guidance while raising quality and security standards.
• Develop maintainable software with comprehensive test coverage and improve testing and CI/CD strategies.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and enable knowledge sharing within the team.
• Drive adoption of AI-native engineering practices using AI coding assistants while maintaining security and code quality.

What you'll need

• 5-7 years of software development experience.
• At least 3 years designing and building scalable, high-performance client-side features on Android using Kotlin.
• Deep expertise building secure, high-quality Android applications with performance optimization and multi-threading.
• Experience designing, building, and securing APIs for large-scale mobile systems.
• Expert knowledge of Android frameworks, including debugging across Android OS versions and device types.
• Expertise in design patterns, scalability/security engineering, and object-oriented principles.
• Proficiency using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) with a focus on code quality and security.
