Staff Software Engineer - Fern

Overview

Staff Software Engineer for Fern to build APIs, scale AI infrastructure, and design developer experiences.

What you'll do

• Drive system design decisions for data modeling, performance, correctness, and reliability.
• Identify scaling bottlenecks before they become problems.
• Ensure systems are performant, observable, secure, and resilient under production load.
• Mentor engineers through in-depth code reviews and high-level architectural discussions.
• Collaborate with product designers, backend, and frontend engineers using TypeScript and Next.js.
• Define polished interfaces and user experiences.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to solve technical problems with customers.
• Experience building with TypeScript (bonus).

Details

• In-office collaboration required for roles based in San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Austin, New York City, Tokyo, and London (5 days/week).
• For roles based in Bangalore, office work is 3 days/week currently and transitions to 5 days/week by end of year.
