Job description

Overview

The Surgery Field Engineer Apprentice will observe and perform equipment service processes and procedures to support customer satisfaction and proper functionality of less complex customer diagnostic imaging equipment. This is an onsite customer-facing service position in healthcare environments, delivered through a one-year apprenticeship designed to prepare candidates for a long-term career in field service.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate and troubleshoot imaging equipment issues in hospital radiology environments and implement appropriate repairs.
  • Complete Preventative Maintenance on designated equipment.
  • Perform safety and environmental inspections to ensure compliance with Health and Human Services and Environmental Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Complete service and repair documentation following hospital protocol and GEHC policies and procedures.
  • Maintain daily communications with customers to ensure resolution and proper follow-up.
  • Care for tools and test equipment and ensure calibration.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment.
  • Mentor with and assist more experienced technicians on progressive repairs and resolution.
  • Work as a member of the local team to provide efficient service delivery to accounts within the assigned area.
  • Complete planned Quality and Compliance training within defined deadlines.
  • Identify and report customer quality or compliance concerns immediately to the Quality Organization.
  • Comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations.

What you'll need

  • AS, BS, MS degree, military education, certificate program, or current student with less than 12 months from completion.
  • Alternatively, a High School Diploma/GED with 6 months experience servicing electronic, IT or mechanical equipment.
  • Previous experience and/or coursework successfully interpreting schematic diagrams.
  • Previous experience and/or coursework performing troubleshooting and planned maintenance on basic diagnostic imaging or electronic equipment following current standards, code, and procedures to ensure safe and effective operation.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience interpreting schematic diagrams and performing effective repair and planned maintenance on basic biomedical or electronic equipment.
  • Analytical and communication skills to communicate technical issues to customers in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good customer relations.
  • Experience interfacing with internal team members and external customers as part of a solution-based service process.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electromechanical, and/or electronic equipment in the electronic field, resulting in knowledge of electronic digital circuitry and understanding of electronic and electro-mechanical devices.
  • Change agent and process oriented.
  • Local candidates.

Details

  • One-year apprenticeship.
  • Onsite customer-facing service position supporting hospitals and clinical settings.
  • The ideal candidate can live in Fairfield, Vacaville, Contra Costa County, Alameda County or Greater lower Sacramento.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must frequently bend, stoop, twist, climb, crouch/squat, kneel/crawl, sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must reach at, above and below shoulder level, flex/extend the neck, and have good hand and finger dexterity.
  • Required vision abilities may include color, close, distance, peripheral and depth perception.
  • Must comply with GEHC’s standard background check, including a post-offer drug test.
  • Must comply with customer access policies, including required immunizations and additional drug tests or background checks when applicable.
  • May not relocate more than 30 miles from the current location without manager approval.
