Overview
Systems Engineer supporting the U.S. Navy's Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) program, providing engineering support to the Naval Enterprise Network (NEN) using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and SysML.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain the Naval Enterprise Network model using MBSE tools, SysML and the Object-Oriented Systems Engineering Methodology tailored for the SMIT Project.
- Provide the core competency for MBSE, SysML, MBSE processes, and Cameo Systems Modeler (CSM) and other MBSE tool suites across the SMIT program.
- Use an agile MBSE approach to support the needs of stakeholders, including the customer and the SMIT team.
- Create and manage the NEN System Model using SysML, aligned with the NAVWAR EA Profile, supporting all systems engineering lifecycle use cases.
- Create, mature, and maintain Service-level and System-level Requirements within CSM, including Derived, Refined, Verified, and Satisfied relationships to other model elements.
- Build abstract, logical High-Level Design (HLD) architecture and implementation-specific, physical Low-Level Design (LLD) architecture of the solution using CSM.
- Engage directly with Leidos Domain Architects and other Subject Matter Experts regularly to keep the NEN model accurate.
- Initiate, curate, and deliver testing artifacts for peer reviews with internal and external stakeholders, capturing and adjudicating feedback to closure.
- Develop and manage the system model to support technical analyses for subsystems or system elements, including technical solutions, trade studies, and decomposition into system-level requirements.
- Create, maintain, and deliver Requirement Traceability Matrices, High-Level Designs, and Low-Level Designs within the CSM NEN Model to Governance Team standards.
- Create, deliver, and execute Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports within the CSM NEN Model to Governance Team standards.
- Develop models of system requirements, architecture/design, interfaces, behavior, and simulations using No Magic's Cameo Systems Modeler (CSM) and suite.
- Provide foundational patterns and cross-cutting model elements to support creation of "to-be" models that assess the impacts of change.
- Translate systems engineering processes from document-based efforts to model-based work products for customers as required.
- Be an ambassador for MBSE, speaking to its benefits compared to the DSEM process.
- Collaborate and coordinate with external customers, management, subcontractors, vendors, and other engineering disciplines.
- Lead small, somewhat complex MBSE-related activities as requested, such as modeling MBSE processes, developing patterns, test cases, and simulations, and identifying MBSE tool integration requirements.
- Support the Lead Systems Engineer with MBSE process updates and proposal estimation, and provide training to newer team members as needed.
- Report modeling status to the Government occasionally as directed by the Lead Systems Engineer.
What you'll need
- B.S. Degree and 4 or more years of prior relevant experience, or M.S. with 2 or more years of prior relevant experience, in System Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, from an accredited college or university.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and hold a Secret clearance.
- Understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices.
- Experience applying MBSE methods, tools, and frameworks to develop rigorous specifications and designs of commercial and/or DoD systems/components.
- Able to synthesize knowledge from multiple domains to apply to new, complicated problems.
- Experience working in large enterprise operations environments, including identification, development, analysis of enterprise IT activities, solutions/risk mitigations, artifacts and migrations.
- Experience applying systems engineering fundamental concepts, processes, practices, and procedures on technical assignments.
- Experience collaborating with other enterprise technologists, both internal and external, to resolve complex technical issues.
- Knowledge of MBSE tools such as No Magic's Cameo Systems Modeler, Collaborator, Teamwork Cloud, and SysML.
- Must be able to work collaboratively and remotely in a team environment.
- Must be able to work independently to develop innovative modeling approaches and optimizations.
- Communication skills in leading discussions and interacting with Government customers, colleagues, and senior leadership.
- Some travel may be required.
Nice to have
- Experience working on integrated teams, assisting other engineers and disciplines with little to no supervision.
- Defense industry Systems Engineering experience.
- IT Network Systems Engineering experience.
- Familiarity with Atlassian JIRA and Product Lifecycle Management Tools NGEN.
