Overview
Traction Power Engineer for railway networks, responsible for designing, analyzing, implementing, and maintaining traction power systems to meet reliability, efficiency, and safety needs.
What you'll do
- Design and develop traction power supply systems including substations, OCS, and third rail.
- Run load flow analysis, short-circuit studies, and voltage drop calculations.
- Specify electrical equipment such as transformers, rectifiers, circuit breakers, and protective relays.
- Integrate traction power systems with signalling, telecommunications, and track infrastructure.
- Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning to resolve technical issues.
- Develop maintenance schedules, analyze performance data, and propose upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with railway standards and conduct risk and safety analyses.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field (master’s preferred).
- 5-8 years of experience in railway traction power systems or a similar domain.
- Familiarity with railway electrification systems including AC and DC traction power.
- Proficiency in electrical system modelling software such as ETAP or PSCAD.
- Strong knowledge of power system protection, SCADA systems, and relay coordination.
- Understanding of railway-specific standards such as AREMA, BS EN, or UIC.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
