Overview
We are looking for a Senior DBA to manage database availability, performance, and resiliency across Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments on premises, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and AWS. The role focuses on disaster recovery, performance tuning, migration, and routine operational database activities.
What you'll do
- Administer, monitor, and maintain Oracle 11g/12c/19c/21c and Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 databases in production, staging, and development environments.
- Perform installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades for Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Manage database security, user roles, privileges, and access controls.
- Design, configure, and maintain disaster recovery setups including Oracle Data Guard, SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, and Mirroring.
- Conduct DR drills, failover and switchover testing, and document RTO/RPO compliance.
- Troubleshoot replication lag, synchronization issues, and DR failover incidents.
- Manage and support databases hosted on Oracle Cloud, including Base Database Service, Exadata Cloud Service, and Autonomous Database as applicable.
- Handle OCI DBCS provisioning, backup configuration, patching, and monitoring.
- Work with OCI networking, storage, and security constructs related to database hosting.
- Perform SQL query tuning, execution plan analysis, and index optimization across Oracle and SQL Server.
- Monitor and tune instance-level parameters, memory, I/O, and wait events.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Perform database cloning using RMAN duplicate, Data Pump, and SQL Server backup/restore-based cloning.
- Execute database refresh activities between Production and UAT/Dev environments, including data masking where required.
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Oracle DB Links and SQL Server Linked Servers for cross-database and cross-platform connectivity.
- Manage backup and recovery strategies using RMAN and native SQL backups, and validate recovery readiness.
- Migrate databases from on premises to cloud, cloud to cloud, and SQL to Oracle.
- Maintain documentation for configurations, DR runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams on database-related requirements.
- Participate in on-call/rotational support as needed.
What you'll need
- 9+ years of hands-on DBA experience, with solid depth in both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Strong experience setting up and managing DR solutions including Data Guard, Always On, Log Shipping, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for database hosting and management.
- Proven expertise in database performance tuning at query, instance, and infrastructure level.
- Practical experience with database cloning and database refresh processes.
- Strong understanding of database links, linked servers, and cross-platform connectivity.
- Solid grasp of backup and recovery tools including RMAN and native SQL Server backup/restore.
- Good understanding of database security, patching, and upgrading methodologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and incident-resolution skills under production pressure.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong communication skills to work with cross-functional and client teams.
- Ability to independently own and drive DR and performance initiatives.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, production-support environment.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to prioritize under pressure during incidents.
Nice to have
- Oracle OCP or Microsoft SQL Server certification.
- Exposure to Exadata or Autonomous Database.
- Scripting skills in Shell, PowerShell, or Python for automation of DBA tasks.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as OEM, SolarWinds, or Zabbix.
- Experience working in a managed services or multi-client support environment.
