Overview
Work as an Accounting Associate (Indirect Tax) within Caterpillar's Indirect Tax Centre of Excellence in Bangalore. Manage EMEA VAT compliance processes, support accurate filings and payment workflows, and improve tax processes through technology, automation, and cross-border projects.
What you'll do
- Prepare and submit EU VAT returns, EC Sales Lists, Intrastat filings, and other indirect tax filings across multiple jurisdictions.
- Test VAT-related internal controls.
- Analyse and validate compliance data, flag issues, and collaborate with teams to resolve them efficiently.
- Maintain and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders regarding compliance-related matters.
- Ensure adherence to indirect tax processes and update procedures to reflect evolving business requirements.
- Prepare and review month-end reconciliations and journal entries, maintaining comprehensive audit documentation.
- Leverage technology to streamline and automate tax calculations while ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Extract and interpret tax data to support informed business decisions.
- Reconcile tax positions with the books of accounts.
- Monitor the completeness and accuracy of indirect tax systems and drive improved tax compliance processes.
- Drive cross-border projects and develop global best practices in processes.
What you'll need
- Degree in finance, accounting, tax, or a related field.
- Strong English written and verbal communication skills.
- Core experience with Global VAT/GST and indirect tax accounting.
- Knowledge of UK indirect tax.
- Robust knowledge of MS Excel.
- Ability to analyse large data volumes to identify key insights.
- Self-driven with a critical and positive “can-do” attitude.
- Ability to collaborate with various subject matter experts.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision.
- Accuracy and attention to detail, including the ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

- Knowledge of accounting methods, processes, and tools, including maintaining and preparing financial statements and reports.
- Knowledge of financial reporting processes, methods, and tools, including creating and maintaining accurate and thorough financial reports.
Nice to have
- Working knowledge of SAP and tax engines or tools such as Vertex and GVRT.
Details
- Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India; preference is to be based out of the Whitefield Office, Bangalore, India.
- Work five days a week in the office.
- The role supports EMEA VAT compliance and involves work across multiple jurisdictions.
- The position requires working with people across the organization and driving cross-border projects.
