Overview
The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate-level position responsible for establishing and implementing new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The role contributes to application systems analysis and programming activities.
What you'll do
- Take end-to-end ownership of complex development deliverables by evaluating business requirements, formulating technical specifications, creating detailed designs, and writing high-quality, maintainable code.
- Drive feasibility studies, effort and time estimation, risk assessment, and implementation planning for new product features and system enhancements.
- Participate in construction, build, automated testing, and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
- Provide post-implementation monitoring, hypercare, and Level 3 technical support.
- Ensure developed solutions adhere to enterprise architecture blueprints, secure coding guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Implement unit, integration, and contract tests using TDD/BDD to achieve high test coverage.
- Participate in peer code reviews, enforce coding and testing standards, and provide constructive feedback.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimization techniques across Java application services and database queries.
- Mentor mid-level and junior developers on design patterns, framework standards, debugging, and coding practices.
- Collaborate with the Technical Lead/Scrum Master, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Quality Assurance engineers within an Agile/Scrum framework.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert on application functionality, integration points, and core capabilities.
- Manage tasks and dependencies with a high degree of autonomy and independent judgment.
- Recommend and implement security measures and defensive coding practices across APIs, user interfaces, and data persistence layers.
- Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities using Snyk, Checkmarx, and SonarQube in accordance with secure SDLC policies.
- Assess risk in business and technical decisions while safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets.
- Adhere to corporate governance, change management procedures, and compliance standards, escalating control issues transparently.
What you'll need
- 5–8+ years of professional software engineering and systems analysis experience in enterprise Java applications.
- Experience as a Senior Individual Contributor driving complex features and modules from requirement analysis through production deployment.
- Experience working within an Agile/Scrum environment with globally distributed teams.
- Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications.
- Experience managing and implementing successful projects.
- Working knowledge of consulting/project management techniques and methods.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Core Java, including concurrency, multithreading, collections, and memory management.
- In-depth knowledge of the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot and Spring Batch/Integration.
- Solid working experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and React.js workflows.
- Strong hands-on SQL and data modeling skills across Oracle 19c and MongoDB.
- Hands-on experience writing automated unit and integration tests.
- Experience with CI/CD build and deployment pipelines, including Docker, OpenShift, and Jenkins/GitHub.
Nice to have
- Experience within Financial Services, Banking, Capital Markets, or Securities Services, including Custody, Funds, Clearing, or Reporting/BI Platforms.
- Familiarity with SWIFT ISO 15022/20022, FIX, sFTP, or NDM.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and interpretive thinking capabilities.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate technical solutions to cross-functional partners.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under tight deadlines with high resilience and accountability.
