Commercial Counsel, SPARC

Overview

Commercial Counsel for SPARC (Safety, Policy, and Research Contracts) in Anthropic’s legal team, supporting AI safety and research agreements and enterprise/go-to-market transactions.

What you'll do

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements focused on AI safety and research.
• Handle GTM/sales transactions including enterprise customer contracts.
• Partner with Sales and Go-to-Market teams to support deal velocity and provide legal guidance.
• Build and maintain commercial legal infrastructure (templates, playbooks, process improvements).
• Partner with Policy, Safeguards, and Research teams on AI governance initiatives.
• Identify and escalate legal risks while supporting business momentum.
• Stay current on legal developments affecting AI technologies.

What you'll need

• J.D. and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred).
• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Ability to provide clear, practical legal guidance to non-lawyers.
• Strong communication skills for translating legal concepts to non-legal audiences.
• A collaborative approach working with colleagues and external partners.
• Experience navigating multi-stakeholder agreements involving technical and policy considerations.

Details

• Hybrid policy: expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.
