Data Scientist (Applied AI – Performance Management)

Overview

Apply data science and AI to operational performance management for a Navy program. The role focuses on identifying performance improvement opportunities, improving POAM effectiveness, and building code-first analytical capabilities.

What you'll do

• Analyze large operational datasets to identify performance degradation and systemic issues.
• Build code-first analyses and models for automated or semi-automated opportunity discovery.
• Evaluate and prioritize POAMs linked to contractual performance outcomes.
• Translate operational problems into data-driven solutions with analysts, engineers, and stakeholders.
• Apply explainable and defensible AI techniques to performance problems.
• Build reusable data science and AI methods for the team.
• Communicate analytical insights to technical, non-technical, and leadership audiences.

What you'll need

• Bachelor’s degree with 4–8 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with 2–6 years.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret security clearance.
• Experience applying data science, machine learning, or AI to operational problems.
• Proficiency in Python or similar data analysis and modeling languages.
• Experience with large, messy, or heterogeneous datasets.
• Strong problem-framing and analytical approach selection skills.
• Ability to explain complex analytical results clearly and defensibly.

Nice to have

• Experience with applied machine learning, statistical modeling, or AI for pattern detection, prioritization, or forecasting.
• Familiarity with operational metrics, service-level agreements, or contract-driven environments.
• Exposure to AI enablement, platform thinking, or reusable analytics frameworks.
• Experience supporting large-scale or enterprise environments.

• Pay range: $87,100–$157,450 per year.
