Database Administrator

Overview

Database Administrator in Cisco's Database Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, operating and maintaining Oracle Database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments.

What you'll do

• Manage and support Oracle Database environments (11g, 12c, 19c, 23ai), performing installation, configuration and routine lifecycle management.
• Ensure database availability, performance and security.
• Complete planned database upgrades and migrations using established procedures and tools such as AutoUpgrade, RMAN and Data Pump.
• Develop and maintain scripts (Shell, Python, SQL/PLSQL) to automate routine DBA tasks, health checks and monitoring.
• Contribute to the reliability and operational excellence of Oracle platforms, implementing monitoring and alerting.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident management, and support HA/DR activities.
• Perform basic performance analysis and optimization using AWR, ASH and ADDM.

What you'll need

• 4–8 years of experience in Oracle Database Administration supporting enterprise-scale production environments.
• Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, Shell scripting and Python.
• Experience with core Oracle technologies: Oracle ASM, RAC, Active Data Guard, RMAN and OEM.
• Experience supporting Oracle Database 19c and 23ai environments.
• Experience working in Linux/Unix production environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Ansible or Terraform).
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience managing Oracle workloads in public cloud environments (OCI, AWS or Azure).
• Operational experience with other database ecosystems (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL or MySQL).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a self-motivated approach to working in an Agile/DevOps environment.
