Overview
Serve as a Field Service Engineer supporting the installation, servicing, PLC programming and troubleshooting, and support of capital equipment within the paper industry. The role includes approximately three months of onsite training at a Wisconsin facility, followed by customer-site field service throughout the United States.
What you'll do
- Program, debug, and troubleshoot PLC systems and other automation controls to optimize machine performance.
- Troubleshoot customer equipment issues on-site, providing timely and effective solutions.
- Assist with on-site installations, commissioning, and upgrades of new and existing machinery.
- Conduct routine and emergency servicing, diagnosing electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical issues.
- Train customer operation and maintenance personnel on safety, PLC systems, and best practices.
- Maintain detailed installation reports, programming changes, and service documentation.
- Utilize assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, PLC ladder logic, machine manuals, and technical procedures for installations and adjustments.
- Detect and report defective or faulty materials and equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Work independently with general direction, adhering to policies and objectives.
- Provide technical guidance for installations and PLC programming to team members as needed.
- Independently coordinate and book business travel, manage travel logistics, and complete and submit expense reports in accordance with company policies.
What you'll need
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Controls, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Hands-on experience in programming, debugging, and troubleshooting PLCs.
- Knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and control systems.
- Good mechanical aptitude.
- Customer relations skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods, automation controls, and electrical/pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, prints, assembly layouts, and ladder logic.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to positively influence relationships.
- Excellent problem-solving skills in situations with limited standardization.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional multitasking abilities, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a valid passport.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and greater than 50 pounds with assistance.
Nice to have
- Experience with CAD systems or SolidWorks.
- Multilingual proficiency.
Details
- Full-time, regular position.
- Remote - USA; after the initial training period, employees can live anywhere in the US and travel to customer sites.
- Initial onsite training at one of the Wisconsin facilities for approximately 3 months; housing is provided during training.
- When not traveling or working on a customer assignment, Field Service Team Members are not expected to report to an office.
- The location must be within 2 hours of an airport, and the Field Service Team can live in nearly any of the lower-48 states.
- Travel throughout the United States is required, with up to 100% travel and approximately 75-80% field time annually.
- Travel typically involves approximately 21 days of each month traveling and working away from home, including overnight stays and extended periods away from home.
- Assignments may involve extended stays at one or multiple customer sites, including periods of two weeks or more without scheduled time off.
- Holiday and weekend work is routine, and extended days and hours may be required to meet business needs.
- International travel opportunities may be available based on business needs and the employee's interest and availability.
- Standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling may be required.
