Overview
Operate as the Sr. Field Application Engineer for ABB's Electrification business within the Eastern PA and DE trade areas. Serve as the technical lead for consulting engineers, end users, EPC and design-build customers, helping ABB products and solutions achieve preferred or acceptable manufacturer status in project specifications.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with consultant, end user, utility and EPC/DBC engineers to define electrical project needs.
- Provide design assistance, product selection, value engineering, budgeting and education on ABB solutions to gain acceptance in project specifications.
- Serve as the local product expert for MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, motor control, power monitoring, power circuit breakers, insulated case circuit breakers and molded case circuit breakers.
- Apply short circuit, coordination and arc flash mitigation concepts and illustrate their benefits using tools such as SKM or Easy Power.
- Develop and articulate complex technical concepts to engineers, contractors and users.
- Participate in and actively engage in developing papers for IEEE and other industry events and conferences to raise awareness of ABB solutions.
- Bring the voice of the customer on new product opportunities, product gaps and market trends to commercial and product management leadership for action.
What you'll need
- B.S. degree in engineering, preferably electrical, with a minimum of 8+ years of experience in the electrical distribution industry, or a master's degree in engineering with 4+ years of experience in the same.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E and UL.
- Previous field, plant or design engineering in electrical power systems at major oil and gas companies, electric utilities or industrial facilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to consider multiple viewpoints and resolve technical issues.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Work authorization that permits employment with ABB in the United States.
