Lead Engineer - Data & AI

Overview

Lead the architecture and hands-on delivery of a data and AI platform spanning storage, pipelines, services, applications and agentic systems. This is a senior individual contributor role with no direct reports.

What you'll do

• Own architecture for major platform components and data products.
• Define target architectures and migration paths for live systems.
• Write and deploy production code for difficult components and reference implementations.
• Design data contracts, lineage, schema evolution, access control and cost management foundations.
• Set agentic engineering practices, tooling and code-review standards.
• Resolve technically difficult or ambiguous problems.
• Raise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews and mentoring.

What you'll need

• Experience designing and delivering systems used by multiple teams.
• Strong distributed-systems knowledge, including partitioning, consistency, delivery guarantees and backpressure.
• Platform-level data engineering experience with table formats, batch and streaming architectures, and data modelling.
• Deep expertise in at least one programming language and working fluency in others.
• Experience with APIs, observability, infrastructure as code, Kubernetes and security practices.
• Expertise in agentic coding tools and production large-language-model systems.
• Meaningful open-source exposure and familiarity with open standards.

Nice to have

• Staff, Principal or Lead engineering experience while remaining hands-on.
• Public work such as substantial GitHub projects, open-source contributions, technical writing or talks.
