Lead Mechanical Engineer - Structural

Overview

Lead Mechanical Engineer (Structural) to drive engineering execution for research and development of Eaton’s Data Center portfolio, focused on standing HAC containment systems and related white-space infrastructure.

What you'll do

• Design and analyze structural systems for data center white-space infrastructure, including power distribution, containment, cable management, and equipment supports.
• Perform structural calculations for gravity, seismic, lateral, and dynamic loading, including member sizing and connection design.
• Prepare structural calculation packages with load assessments, deflection checks, anchorage design, and documentation for reviews.
• Use tools such as SAP2000 and FEA software to evaluate assemblies and validate results with engineering judgment and hand calculations.
• Assess and modify existing infrastructure for retrofit, upgrade, and capacity expansion while ensuring structural integrity.
• Support new product development by collaborating with mechanical and MEP teams and providing structural expertise and risk assessments.
• Act as structural SME by supporting technical reviews, delegated design submittals, and site-specific engineering solutions.

What you'll need

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 8-12 years of experience in product design, structural engineering, or engineering mechanics.
• Strong expertise in structural analysis, structural dynamics, steel structure design, and engineering mechanics.
• Required experience in data center/mission-critical/industrial/manufacturing environments, specifically overhead support structures and equipment support platforms.
• Proficiency in SAP2000, LS-DYNA, or equivalent FEA tools with ability to validate results via hand calculations.
• Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
