Overview
Lead Security Research Engineer to drive vulnerability detection signature research for Qualys Scanner, including technical strategy, roadmap ownership, and team mentoring.
What you'll do
- Set the technical direction and own the roadmap for vulnerability detection libraries across the Scanner product suite.
- Lead research, design, and development of new detection logic and enhancements for databases, applications, operating systems, TCP/IP protocols, and network devices.
- Mentor senior and mid-level Research Engineers through design and code reviews and by establishing best practices.
- Champion automation to scale recurring research, development, and validation tasks.
- Explore adoption of AI/ML techniques for faster research, validation, and improved false positive/negative outcomes.
- Partner with Customer Support and Research teams to resolve complex customer issues and drive systemic fixes.
What you'll need
- 7+ years of experience in network and systems security with demonstrated technical leadership or mentorship.
- Deep understanding of protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, and SSL/TLS.
- Strong knowledge of security vulnerabilities and mitigation techniques.
- Hands-on Python and Bash scripting experience.
- Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with network analysis and packet capture analysis.
- System administration experience on Windows or Unix/Linux platforms.
Nice to have
- Exposure to applying AI/ML to security problems such as detection, classification, anomaly detection, or pattern recognition.
- Knowledge of Lua (preferred) or Java.
- Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMWare, VirtualBox, or XEN.
- Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud) including AI/ML services.
- Industry certifications such as OSCP, CISSP, and GIAC.
