Lead Software Engineer

Overview

Lead Software Engineer role leading complex, companywide technology initiatives and serving as the technical authority for assigned products and platforms.

What you'll do

• Lead complex technology initiatives, including those that are companywide with broad impact.
• Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex, large-scale technology solutions.
• Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs.
• Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges requiring in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors.
• Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions, requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading the technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives.
• Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals.
• Lead projects and teams, or serve as a peer mentor.
• Serve as the technical authority for assigned products and platforms.
• Drive engineering excellence through architecture governance, code quality standards, and operational best practices.
• Mentor senior and junior engineers while building high-performing technical teams.
• Influence strategic technology decisions and help define the organization's AI engineering vision.
• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
• Design, develop, and maintain Java 17+ Spring Boot microservices following Clean Architecture and Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.
• Implement and optimize RESTful APIs, ensuring compliance with enterprise SDLC, security, and data governance standards.
• Experience designing and implementing Agentic AI platforms, RAG solutions, orchestration frameworks, and multi-agent systems.
• Experience with multi-model LLM strategies, including Gemini, Claude, OpenAI, and proprietary enterprise models.
• Experience with event-driven architecture, Kafka, streaming platforms, and asynchronous integration patterns.
• Experience with cloud-native platforms and modern application deployment architectures.
• Experience using or integrating AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Devin, Cursor, or similar platforms.
• Experience in the Mortgage domain, including origination, underwriting, servicing, document processing, or default management.

Nice to have

• Understanding of AI model governance, explainability, validation, security, and risk management in regulated environments.
• Strong understanding of observability tools, production monitoring, resiliency engineering, and platform reliability.
• Exposure to event streaming (Kafka), cloud-native patterns, and DevSecOps.
• Knowledge of workflow automation, intelligent document processing, decision engines, and AI-driven business process optimization.
• Prior experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and contributing to enterprise architecture initiatives.
