Machine Learning Engineer II

Overview

Build and operate production machine learning services and components for Expedia Group's advertising platform. The role covers ML system design, model productionization, service reliability, and end-to-end lifecycle ownership.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable ML services and components.
• Translate product and customer requirements into ML system, API, and data-model designs.
• Productionize ML models and build code, tests, and tooling for reliable pipelines and services.
• Review designs and code while improving system performance, quality, cost, and technical debt.
• Own data preparation, training, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and ongoing ML service improvement.
• Integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions across related technical domains.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience.
• At least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language and its ecosystem.
• Experience with low-level system design, API design, and data modeling.
• Experience owning ML features or services through deployment and operational support.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, ML lifecycle management, and secure coding.

Nice to have

• Experience building scalable, fault-tolerant, high-throughput ML services.
• Experience improving availability, performance, and reliability through observability and automation.
• Experience with feature stores, training and serving infrastructure, or AI-driven production features.
• Experience across data pipelines, model training, and model-serving APIs.
• Ability to influence ML system design and engineering best practices.
