Mainframe DB2 System Programmer SME

Overview

Mainframe DB2 System Programmer SME responsible for installing, configuring, tuning and supporting DB2 for z/OS subsystems in a SYSPLEX data-sharing environment, and providing secondary support to the DBA staff.

What you'll do

• Install and maintain IBM DB2 z/OS software and related 3rd-party products using SMP/E.
• Work with IBM and other vendors to address product defects, issues and usage questions.
• Configure DB2 groups and subsystems in a SYSPLEX data-sharing environment, supporting mainframe DB2 applications.
• Perform problem analysis and resolution for mainframe DB2 system related issues.
• Tune performance and capacity of system parameters and resources using various monitoring and reporting tools.
• Be responsible for DB2 subsystem availability, backup and recovery strategies and procedures, and DR tests.
• Maintain the DB2 Catalog, Directory and other DB2 system objects.
• Document policies and procedures.
• Provide secondary support for the DBA staff on DB2 subsystem issues.
• Provide security services in regards to systems support role for DB2.

What you'll need

• 7+ years IBM System Z experience and concepts.
• Considerable knowledge of software installation via SMP/E, and database management and performance optimization using IBM, BMC, and Broadcom toolsets.
• Knowledge of remote client/application connectivity via DDF and DRDA, integrated with RACF, ACF2, or TopSecret access control.
• Knowledge of FLASH copy, DASD replication, DB2 forward recovery, z/OS storage management, Coupling Facility, networking (TCP/IP, SNA), WLM, and USS.
• 5+ years IBM DB2 experience, with advanced knowledge of buffer pools, page and tablespace layouts, and DB2 internal components (EDM pool, RIDs).
• Advanced knowledge of data sharing sysplex management, ZPARMS configuration, and backup, recovery and logging strategies.
• Advanced knowledge of lock/latch contention management, IFCID tracing, and performance monitoring.
• Experience in problem determination and analysis.
• Analytical, critical and outside-the-box thinking in problem solving, especially in critical, high-pressure situations.
